KUCHING: The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) has pledged to continue attracting private companies from Singapore to invest in various sectors in Sarawak.

This is made possible with the cooperation that exists between the organisation and the State government through the Sarawak Office of Trade and Tourism in Singapore (STATOS) and also Federation of Sarawak Business Associations.

“We are exploring investments in various different sectors in Sarawak, which include agro-food and energy,” said SBF Country Head (Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines) for Southeast Asia and Pacific Global Division 1, Tan Teck Lee.

“Hopefully, after this courtesy visit with the Premier, we will continue to work closely in the long run to bring more projects that will benefit Sarawak,” he said during a press conference after their courtesy visit to Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa on Tuesday (July 12).

Meanwhile, the President of the Federation of Sarawak Business Associations, Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Abang Openg stressed that the experience brought by SBF – an organisation established about 20 years ago – will further strengthen the economic development of the state.

“We are trying to attract more investment, especially from Singapore, to support the sustainable economic development agenda in line with the State’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030,” he said.

UOB Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Ng Wei Wei said their side will collaborate with SBF, the Federation of Sarawak Business Associations and STATOS to bring in investors who have the same vision in developing the economy sustainably.

“The state is endowed with natural resources, and renewable energy, and that is the key to bringing in more investment.

“I am confident that the Premier’s vision to prioritise green energy development through PCDS 2030 can attract the foreign investors who want to do business on sustainability,” she added.

At the same time, STATOS Chief Executive Officer, Chew Chang Guan assured that STATOS will continue to highlight Sarawak’s potential, especially in the tourism and investment sectors.
