KUCHING: The Sarawak Business Federation’s (SBF) Recovery BizFund has successfully launched a special Weaving Programme in five different locations across the state, aiming to preserve traditional craftsmanship.

The programme, organised by the Orang Ulu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OUCCI), a member of SBF, and was held in Bario, Lawas, Sungai Asap, Tubau, and Miri.

Through this innovative initiative, SBF has provided funding and resources to train 100 Orang Ulu women in these areas for a month.

Co-chair of SBF Recovery BizFund Anne Kung paid a visit to the weaving workshops from August 16 to 18, accompanied by OUCCI member Lohong Tajang.

“Our goal is to transform new weavers into skilled artisans and entrepreneurs, ensuring the continuation of centuries-old traditions. These crafts are not only beautiful but also serve practical purposes,” said Kung in a statement yesterday (Aug 22).

Kung said that apart from the Weaving Programme, SBF Recovery BizFund provides an array of over 40 courses designed to train and enhance the skills of its members, including digitalisation, patisserie, hospitality, and construction certification, among others.

She added that the impact has been substantial, with over 2,000 participants already benefiting from the SBF Recovery BizFund initiatives.

She thanked the state government for granting RM20 million to support skill development and job retention until 2030.
