OUCCI holds weaving programme for Orang Ulu women

The Orang Ulu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OUCCI) is conducting a month-long weaving programme for Orang Ulu women under its business wing called OUCCI CRAFT.

The programme called BizFund is funded by the state government through Sarawak Business Federation (SBF).

SBF Recovery BizFund cochairperson Anne Kung stated that RM20 million had been allocated to the BizFund for capacity building and enterprise developement.

She was very impressed with the progress of the project when she visited four of the five sites, from Aug 16 to 18, 2023.

"Orang Ulu women must continue with their efforts and to think big with the hope of one day selling their products even on an international scale," she said.

The programme takes place in five different areas of the Orang Ulu community; namely Sungei Asap, Tubau, Miri, Bario and Lawas.

Meanwhile, OUCCI committee member Lohong Tajang said the aim of this programme is to reach out to women in rural areas and provide them with skills to create marketable products.

"The programme is to provide and upgrade the skills of the women folks to get involved in business.

The weaving programme is on of the many empowerment programmes lined up for the community and members," she said.

The OUCCI projet aims to provide skill-based training for 135 Orang Ulu women to improved their livelihood.
